NeOn Expands Overseas
From NeOn Project
In recent years the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has been collaborating with the Kasetsart University (KU) in Bangkok, Thailand. They have been collaborating on the development of an agricultural collaborative knowledge-based management tool.
The system is now available online as a working prototype.
More recently a roadmap has been discussed between KU and FAO which identifies a possible expansion of the system:
- In terms of users and content providers, to cover other domains (i.e. health and medicine), and
- In terms of exploitation of data via applications (i.e. an early warning system on rice diseases).
Many more national and international partners may be involved, for example:
- The Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) Thailand,
- The National Institute of Informatics (NII) Japan,
- The University of Tokyo Japan,
- The National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) Thailand,
- The Ministry of Health Thailand,
- The Ministry of Science and Technology (STKS) Thailand.
The infrastructure of the system may also be expanded, to incorporate further functionalities and in order to make use of available technologies to help collaborative knowledge management, as well as all correlated activities such as Knowledge Organization Systems mapping, knowledge extraction, etc.
In this context, FAO has promoted the NeOn technologies and methodologies within KU, and the European project has been considered highly valuable and a precious source for improving the mentioned project.
